Fillmore Street Fair

We were on our way to the Giants game, because it's Saturday and we thought it was 1 o'clock start. But it was 6pm start so then we thought, let's go to the Saturday Market at the Ferry Plaza. So we're driving down Bush, when we pass the Fillmore Street Fair, so we stopped. We used to go to this fair every year, but we haven't been for a while. Last year we were at Olive and Tommy's wedding.

I bought this pin while we were there. It looks like our dog. And I got a jellyfish too, but it's a pendant.

My First Apple Pie

Michael loves apple pie. So I finally made one. Here it is. This is from last Thanksgiving 2006, but as I noted earlier, I'm quite behind in my blog entries. So I'm trying to get caught up and then hopefully everything else will be chronilogically ordered. I don't want to leave them out, when I did actually take a picture.

Ha! It was yummy.

Black and White Baby Blanket

Babies, young babies, apparently cannot see very well. They don't distinguish colors and see contrast best, that is, they can focus on black and white. So I had an idea that a baby's blanket should be black and white, and if I crochet it, it will go very fast. Also, I can easily do stripes or big broad sweeps of black then white and change it around. No rules! It's for a baby. And if the parents just happen to be people who can appreciate good design, well, aren't I just the lucky one!

I also made a little pixie hat. I tried finding a pattern, but they were all for toddlers or adults. So I just made it up. It's kind of messed up because when you knit in the round I must have been missing something. I couldn't see where I was making a mistake, but the rounds weren't connecting. They stepped up. I think to get them to match I should have done this flat and then seamed it. Oh well, I always appreciate a little imperfection in all my work. How else would I know it was really mine?

This was made for JJ and Carri's baby Quinn. I'll see if I can find pictures of the one I did for their little girl Kaia.

Brioche Stitch Scarf

Last season the Giants had a special event night called "Stitch n Pitch", they gave us a little tote bag with a bunch of goodies, knitting needles and some crap yarn in orange and black. I made this Brioche Stitch Scarf as an exercise to practice my brioche stitch. So fun!

Learning how to do increases and decreases and know the direction they are going in, is something I haven't yet mastered. Still, it's so cute, don't you think?

So here's a picture of me wearing it and another of the two sides of the scarf. I gave this to my friend Beth for her birthday. She loves it and doesn't care that it's made from crap yarn because she's a diehard Giants fan. Don't you just love her?!

Go Giants!!

Mango Jam

I'm entering this here jar of Mango Jam into the San Mateo County Fair, even though I don't live in San Mateo County, they don't care. Isn't that so very sweet of them? I've been entering stuff into their fairs for years now. Although, I didn't do anything last year. So this year I'm making up for it. Many things!

Here's the jam. It's a little tart because I added much too much lemon juice. But it's still yummy. My Mom made it with me the last time she was here in April. People generally like just receiving the jam, when you show them how to actually make it then it gets mighty tedious! The washing, the boiling, the cutting, the measuring, the stirring, more stirring, stirring again! All the boiling, and cleaning, cleaning, cleaning everything! Practicing aseptic technique is not as common as you might think. A lot of people like to taste something and then put the tasting spoon back into the pot. Madness! I know, but it happens.

Anyhow, it's good. But this is my last jar. If you want some you'll have to bring me fruit.

SF Giants Seed Bead Pin

Here's a pin that I made using size 10 seed beads in orange and black, with sterling silver findings and a stainless steel 1 1/2 inch safety pin. It was really easy and fun to make. Plus I got to buy new crafty tools! I bought a whole set of jewelry making tools. So cutie! They come in a little zippered holder.

GO GIANTS!!!

Norah Gaughan Cabled Bolero or Capecho

Vogue Knitting's Winter 2006 issue had Norah Gaughan's Capecho on the cover. Although later in the issue they called it a Cabled Bolero. Whatever you want to call it, it's a beauty. But the sizing is an issue. I'm a big girl, but I made the size medium. I did a gauge swatch and got it right on, but found that a lot of other knitters were having sizing issues and were talking about it on Craftster.org.

It's so pretty though, and I didn't want their problems to deter me, but rather to direct me on how I could make this fit my dimensions. I'm so pleased with the result and wore it to Opening Day for the San Francisco Giants! The picture though isn't actually from Opening Day. Those didn't show the Capecho very well.

Oh, and this was my first knitted object that wasn't a square or rectangle. And first cables too! Isn't that great?!

Knitty's Fetching

I've actually already made four of these, but I just got around to finishing my baby sister's. She's getting the grey ones. The white ones are mine and my husband kind of stretched them out the last time we went to the SF Giants game. It was freezing and he's such a goof, he didn't bring a jacket. I told him to, but he's a boy and didn't listen.
Can you believe they only take a single skein? I can't remember the white yarn, but the grey is Jo Sharp, but that's all I know. I'm absolutely wicked for losing the labels when there's only one skein. Anyhow. Super easy, and so quick!

so behind!

Okay, so there are so many things I haven't posted, I better get going! So just know they won't be in such a fabulous chronilogical order, but what can I do? I'm already so behind!
